A Child of Mine Poem by Edgar Guest- High quality print in multiple sizes, styles, and colors

This famous poem by Edgar Albert Guest (1881-1959) has been bringing comfort to grieving parents for years. Last year a friend read this at her son's funeral and asked that I design a print of it for her and her husband to hang in their home. Since then I have sadly known many others who have lost a child. In hopes that these words can bring some comfort to those suffering from so great a loss, and with the blessing of my friend, I decided to add this poem to my shop. And as a tribute to sweet Levi, I will be donating a portion of these sales to a children's charity- The National Hemophilia Foundation for Research.

It's printed on beautiful bright white 100 lb paper. Matte Finish. Available in Black or Gray. And available written as female or male pronouns.

Frames NOT Included.

A CHILD OF MINE
I'll lend you for a little time, "a child of mine", He said.
For you to love the while he lives and mourn for when he's dead.
It may be six months or a year or twenty-two or three.
But will you, till I call him home, take care of him for me?
He'll bring his charms to gladden you, and shall his stay be brief,
You'll have his lovely memories as solace for your grief.

I cannot promise he will stay, since all from earth return,
But there are lessons taught down there I want this child to learn.
I've looked the wide world over in My search for teachers true
And from the throngs that crowd life's lanes, I have chosen you.
Now, will you give him all your love, Nor think the labor vain,
Nor hate Me when I come to call to take him back again?

I fancied that I heard you say, "Dear Lord, Thy will be done."
For all the joy Thy child shall bring, the risk of grief we'll run.
We'll shelter him with tenderness, we'll love him while we may,
And for the happiness we've known, forever grateful stay;
But should the angels call for him much sooner than we've planned,
We'll brave the bitter grief that comes and try to understand.
